Detached three-bay single-storey former gate lodge, built 1825, having recessed entrance bay and lean-to to rear (north) elevation. Now in use as tourist office. Hipped slate roof with cast-iron columns to recessed entrance. Rendered walls. Square-headed openings having limestone block-and-start surrounds with keystones, limestone sills and two-over-two pane timber casement windows. Square-headed opening having limestone block-and-start surround with keystone and timber battened door. Freestanding entrance gateway, erected 1825, comprising pedimented segmental-headed arch with date stone. Flanking lower rendered pedestrian camber-headed entrances having limestone copings. Double-leaf cast-iron gates.
This former gate lodge retains its character through such features as the sash windows with limestone surrounds and slate roof. It maintains its original form, which adds to the architectural significance to the building. The gateway forms a group with the gate lodge, and the mill buildings. Its regularly-proportioned form is enhanced by the carved details and by the well-crafted stone work which is in evidence in the keystones and opening surrounds.
