Mid-row single-bay three-storey house, built c.1820, with shopfront to ground floor. Now also in use as auctioneer's offices. Pitched slate roof with rendered chimneystack and cast-iron rainwater goods. Lined-and-ruled rendered walls, with decorative render quoins and platband. Square-headed window openings with moulded render surrounds, having cornice and fluted pilasters to first floor, painted stone sills and two-over-two pane timber sliding sash windows. Timber shopfront comprising timber cornice and name plate over square-headed double-leaf timber battened door flanked by timber display windows with timber sills over rendered stall risers. Single render console bracket with shamrock motif and ball finial to northern end of shopfront.
This modestly sized building is enhanced and enlivened by its good render decoration. The classical motifs and lined-and-ruled rendered walls are inspired by higher status buildings with their cut-stone finishes. The render framing to the first floor windows is attractive and a notable feature of several buildings in Gort.
