Detached three-bay single-storey classical style gate lodge, c.1830, with shallow central pedimented breakfront. Refurbished and extended, c.1990. Rendered, ruled and lined walls with granite entablature. Square granite columns to corners of original building. Granite pediment and columns to breakfront. Replacement timber sash windows. Replacement timber panelled door. Hipped slate roof with central rendered chimney stack. Extension to rere in a similar style. Set inside entrance screen comprising cast-iron gates and gate posts, flanking stone piers and rendered walls.
This classical gate lodge and entrance screen present a most attractive appearance on approach, announcing the style of the main house beyond. Though refurbished, the lodge retains its original proportions, carried through in the more simply executed rere wing.
