Description

Section of rubble stone boundary wall, c.1780, with sections of red brick having piers and buttresses. Set back from road in grounds shared with Leixlip Castle.

Appraisal

This section of boundary wall, constructed using rubble stone and red brick, is a picturesque feature in the grounds of Leixlip Castle. The construction is representative of the traditional method of economic building in the late eighteenth century, and the exposed buttresses and piers are also of interest. The rubble stone fabric is a feature shared in common with further buildings in the grounds and serves to unify the disparate buildings of various periods.
