Appraisal

This house, which has been extensively renovated over the years leading to the loss of much of the original fabric, was originally a symmetrically-planned building of graceful proportions and of social interest as one of the earliest houses on Main Street. Remodelled to ground floor, the house retains some of its original form to first floor. The timber shopfront to left ground floor does not contribute positively to the composition and further renovations might aim to restore the original character of the building to ground floor. The re-instatement of timber fenestration throughout might also restore a more accurate representation of the original appearance of the composition. The house is primarily of interest for its contribution to the appearance of Main Street, continuing the established streetline while playing a factor in the varied roofline of the terrace.
