Description

Gateway, c.1760, comprising four limestone ashlar piers with cut-stone capping having globe finials, iron double gates and iron flanking pedestrian gates with spear-head finials.

Appraisal

This gateway, announcing the entrance of the grounds of the Church of Ireland church, is a fine feature on the streetscape of Leinster Street. The construction of the piers in limestone ashlar is a good example of the high quality of stone masonry practised in the locality. The gates are an attractive example of early surviving decorative iron work.
