Formal garden, c.1845, with series of terraces having cut-limestone steps, decorative terracotta planting urns and flower bed to centre on a circular plan with cut-stone fountain.
This garden is an attractive feature of the Mooreabbey estate, positioned to the east front of the house, and is of interest for its landscape design qualities – the formal planning of the garden is typical of the mid nineteenth-century taste for ordered landscapes. The cut-stone work to the terraces, including steps with retaining/parapet walls, is a good example of the high quality of stone masonry practised in the locality, while the early terracotta planting urns are attractive features of the design.
