Freestanding eagle finial-topped granite ashlar obelisk, extant 1837, on a square plan on granite ashlar pedestal on cross vaulted arcaded base. Set in field.
An obelisk erected to designs attributed to Richard Castle (d. 1751) of Dublin (Glin 1964, 32-8; Howley 1993, 11) surviving as an interesting relic of the Belan House estate following the decline and ultimate demolition (196-) of the eponymous country house described (1826) as 'a large but plain pile of building...erected after the designs – as we believe – of Bindon [Francis Bindon (d. 1765)] about the year 1743 by the first Earl of Aldborough [John Stratford (c.1691-1777)]' (Brewer 1826 II, 48).
