Terraced two-bay four-storey house, c.1825, on a corner site with two-bay four-storey side (south) elevation, and two-bay three-storey return to west. Extensively renovated, c.1925, with shopfront inserted to ground floor. Part refenestrated. Pitched slate roofs with clay ridge tiles, rendered and yellow brick irregular bond (return) chimney stacks, and cast-iron rainwater goods on moulded rendered overhanging eaves having fluted consoles. Painted rendered walls over random rubble limestone construction with rendered channelled piers to ends, rendered band to eaves supporting fluted corbel table, iron tie bars to side (south) elevation, and exposed random rubble limestone construction to part of return having yellow brick irregular bond section following chimney. Square-headed window openings with rendered sills, moulded rendered surrounds having consoles to first and to second floor supporting entablatures, and replacement timber casement windows, c.1925, having replacement uPVC casement windows to return. Timber shopfront, c.1925, to ground floor on a symmetrical plan with panelled pilasters, fixed-pane timber display windows on panelled stall risers, glazed timber panelled double doors, and panelled fascia over having moulded cornice. Road fronted on a corner site with concrete brick cobbled footpath to front.
An elegantly-composed middle-size house incorporating pleasing proportions while very fine Classically-derived rendered accents exhibiting high quality craftsmanship contribute significantly to the architectural design value of the site. An appealing shopfront of artistic design interest employs a symmetrical plan, thereby complimenting the arrangement of the openings to the upper floors while enlivening the street presence of the house at street level.
