Appraisal

Occupying an important corner site in an area in the centre of Callan commonly known as The Square a middle-size house forms an important element of the street scene. Originally incorporating a robust Classical theme a series of renovation projects have involved the loss of much of the finer detailing to the detriment of some of the character of the site. Therefore the retention of elements of the historic fabric including the remains of a finely-detailed shopfront of artistic interest maintains some of the integrity of the site while enhancing the visual appeal of the house in the streetscape.
