Freestanding cast-iron waterpump, c.1925, comprising fluted pedestal shaft with moulded necking, and capping now missing. Road fronted on concrete footpath with cut-stone kerbing.
An appealing, if unassuming item of street furniture representing an artefact of mass-produced cast-iron ware. An elegant profile together with fine inscribed detailing enhances the artistic design quality of the piece. However, designed primarily as a functional item the waterpump is of significance as a reminder of the mechanisms installed for the provision of clean drinking water before the development of mains systems.
