Freestanding cast-iron waterpump, c.1875, comprising banded cylindrical shaft with moulded necking, cylindrical head having raised lettering, spout, curvilinear 'cow tail' handle, and fluted domed capping having acorn finial. Now disused. Set back from line of road on concrete footpath.
Supplied by the Park Foundry of neighbouring County Waterford a waterpump making a pleasing, if subtle impression in the street scene represents an artefact of early-surviving mass-produced cast-iron work. While elegant attributes including the curvilinear handle identify the aesthetic concerns of the composition the waterpump remains of primary significance as a reminder of the services put in place to provide water from a local source in the period before the development of mains systems.
