Detached three-bay single-storey thatched cottage, c.1800. Reroofed, post-1994. Hipped roof with replacement oat thatch, post-1994, having rope work to ridge, and rendered squat chimney stacks. Painted rendered walls over random rubble stone construction with sections of mud wall construction having tapered buttress to left, and section of red brick Running bond construction following chimney. Square-headed window openings with squared stone sills (no sills to rear (north) elevation), and timber casement windows having wrought iron bars. Square-headed door opening with timber boarded half-door. Road fronted with concrete verge to front.
A picturesque small-scale cottage reputedly intended as accommodation for a worker at the nearby coal mines representing an important element of the vernacular heritage of County Kilkenny on account of the presence of attributes including the informal arrangement of small-scale openings, a supporting buttress, the thatched roof, and so on. Having been well maintained the cottage presents an early aspect, thereby maintaining the positive impression made by a cluster of thatched ranges of similar vintage (including 12400204 - 6/KK-02-04 - 6) on the scenic appeal of Clogh.
