Detached three-bay two-storey part double-pile house with half-dormer attic, c.1800, with single-bay single-storey lean-to return to south-west. In use as post office, 1902. Now entirely in residential use. Pitched (part double-pile (M-profile)) slate roof (lean-to to return) with clay ridge tiles, rendered chimney stacks, timber bargeboards, and cast-iron rainwater goods on overhanging eaves having iron brackets. Unpainted rendered, ruled and lined walls. Square-headed window openings (in tripartite arrangement to outer bays) with cut-limestone sills, hood mouldings over, and six-over-six timber sash windows having two-over-two sidelights to tripartite openings (wrought iron bars to ground floor; six-over-three timber sash windows to half-dormer attic). Round-headed door opening with cut-limestone doorcase supporting archivolt having keystone, hood moulding over, and timber panelled door having overlight. Interior with timber panelled shutters to window openings. Road fronted.
Possibly originally having ecclesiastical associations on account of the position in close proximity to the local church (12401108/KK-11-08) an elegantly-composed middle-size house forms part of a self-contained ensemble making a pleasing statement in the locality. Distinctive attributes ranging from the Wyatt-style arrangement of the window openings to the finely-detailed doorcase all serve to identify the architectural design value of the composition. Having been very well maintained the house presents an early aspect with most of the original fabric surviving intact both to the exterior and to the interior, thereby contributing significantly to the character of the street scene.
