Remains of canal, built 1755-65, including sections of random rubble limestone retaining walls. Disused, pre-1840. Set back from road on bank of River Nore.
Representing an element of the civil engineering heritage of County Kilkenny the remains of a mid eighteenth-century canal developed on the River Nore as part of a larger river improvement scheme (1755-75) initiated under the supervision of William Ockenden (d. 1761) make a pleasing, if subtle contribution to the visual appeal of the local landscape.
