Gateway, c.1825, comprising pair of limestone ashlar piers with cut-limestone stepped capping supporting decorative finials, iron double gates, iron flanking pedestrian gates, limestone ashlar outer piers with cut-limestone stepped capping, and unpainted fine roughcast boundary wall with cut-limestone coping supporting iron railings. Road fronted at entrance to grounds of Castletown Cox.
An elegantly-composed gateway exhibiting high quality stone masonry in locally-sourced County Kilkenny limestone with particular emphasis on the carved detailing enhancing the aesthetic design value of the site. Forming a neat group with an attendant gate lodge (12403808/KK-38-08) the resulting ensemble makes a pleasing visual impression at the entrance to the grounds of the Castletown Cox estate.
