Detached four-bay two-storey thatched cottage, c.1825. In use as post office, 1903. Renovated, c.1975, with single-bay single-storey flat-roofed projecting porch added. Refenestrated, pre-1994. Pitched roof with water reed thatch having rope work to ridge, rendered chimney stack, and rendered coping to gables. Flat roof to porch with rainwater goods on timber eaves. Painted rendered, ruled and lined walls over random rubble stone construction having sections of mud wall construction. Square-headed window openings (some probably remodelled, c.1975) with rendered sills, and replacement uPVC casement windows, pre-1994. Square-headed door opening with replacement glazed uPVC panelled door, pre-1994. Set back from line of road with painted rendered boundary wall to front.
A middle-size cottage representing an element of the early-nineteenth century vernacular legacy of County Kilkenny as indicated by attributes including the construction in locally-sourced materials, the small-scale proportions of the openings, the thatched roof, and so on. However, while much of the original form and massing remain in place extensive renovation works carried out over the course of the late twentieth century have not had a positive bearing on the external expression of the cottage in the street scene.
