Detached three-bay two-storey over basement brick former rectory, built c. 1765. Rectangular double-pile main block, four-bay to south elevation, five-bay to rear (east) elevation; two-storey lean-to wing to north gable, single-storey over basement link building to north-west connecting to two-storey hip roofed stone former coach house. Hipped slate roof, central valley, red brick flat-capped chimneystacks, stone verge copings, cast-iron gutters on brackets on stone corbelled eaves, cast-iron downpipes. Red brick Flemish bond walling, granite dressings and quoins; unpainted roughcast to basement and north gable. Square- headed window openings, painted smooth rendered reveals and soffits, flat brick arches, granite sills, painted timber six-over-six sliding sash windows, without horns. Serliana entrance door opening, rusticated ashlar granite surround, moulded cornice and architrave, projecting keystone, painted timber door with six panels, timber spoked fanlight, painted timber six-pane sidelights, seven granite steps bounded by wrought-iron railings on granite plinth walls. Basement area to east bounded by low wall surmounted by wrought-iron railing, brick plinth wall with ashlar stone copings to south with stone steps giving to lawns. Entrance to yard to north, range of two-storey pitched slate roofed stone outbuildings including stables and coach house. Set in expansive landscaped grounds, approached from north-east by gravelled avenue from road leading into Dromiskin.
Ardronan is a very well maintained example of a former rectory dating from the last decades of the eighteenth century and with its historic features fully intact. The robust granite doorcase is of particular note and the survival of the early fenestration is especially fortuitous.
