Detached five-bay single-storey house, built c. 1800. Pitched slate roof, clay ridge tiles, replacement red brick corbelled chimneystacks; half-round aluminium gutters on brackets, circular aluminium downpipes. Smooth rendered plinth, roughcast rendered walling. Square-headed window openings to south elevation, stone sills, replacement timber sliding sash windows, segmental-headed window openings to north elevation, stone and replacement concrete sills, replacement timber sliding sash windows. Round-headed door opening, smooth rendered surround, replacement painted timber panelled door and plain glazed fanlight. Sign on door stating "SISTER OF ROBERT BURNS (SCOTTISH POET) LIVED IN HOUSE1817-1834).", Segmental-headed door opening to north, replacement timber vertically-sheeted door. House is set in public parkland.
This house was the home of Agnes Burns, sister of celebrated Scottish poet Robert Burns. The long low form of the building is enhanced by the balanced proportions, regularly placed openings and round-headed door opening.
