Rubble stone flanking wall to south-east and north-west, finely tooled coping to north-west. Modern tarmacadamed roadway.

Appraisal

Constructed in a traditional manner, this simply designed bridge is made more interesting by the textural variation applied with the ashlar limestone parapet contrasting with the rock-faced limestone arch and string course. The presence of rubble walling to south suggests possibility of more structural activity in the past. Mapastown Bridge is not only of technical interest but is an attractive structural addition to the roadway and the riverscape.
