Description

Gateway, built c. 1810, comprising pair of square limestone ashlar piers with recessed panels, string course, cut stone capping and wrought-iron double gates with cast-iron spearhead finials; flanked by ashlar plinth with wrought- and cast-iron railings, pedestrian gates to north and south. Forms entrance to Townley Hall, gate lodge to west.

Appraisal

This attractive gateway forms an impressive entrance to Townley Hall with its elegantly-profiled piers displaying well-executed stone masonry. The gate lodge to the west completes this important demesne group.
