Freestanding brick icehouse, built c. 1800, now disused and overgrown. Round-headed opening to north elevation, gauged brick voussoirs. Domed ovoid interior lined with red brick laid in stretcher bond. Entrance to north flanked by rubble masonry walls. Icehouse set on estate grounds attached to Townley Hall to west of quiet laneway providing rear access to Hall.
This well preserved and attractively designed icehouse is a fine example of the type and the skillfully constructed ovoid interior is of particular interest, both architecturally and technically. It is an important survival within the Townley Hall demesne.
