Description

Cast-iron water pump, erected c.1870, with banded shaft, fluted neck, fluted cap with finial, spout and curved pumping handle.

Appraisal

This cast-iron water pump makes a positive contribution to the streetscape of the Drumree. The decorative detailing, such as the banding and fluting add artistic interest to this functional object. Water pumps played an important social and functional role in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, by providing a communal water source.
