Detached single-bay single-storey gate lodge, built c.1880, with lean-to extension, now disused. Hipped slate roof with rusticated stone chimneystack. Rendered and stone walls with rock-faced stone plinths. Timber sash windows set in rusticated stone surround. Cast-iron railings and gates to site.
This gate lodge, known as "Mahon's Lodge", forms part of an interesting group of Loughcrew demesne-related structures, with the Ionic portico, workers' houses, church, stables, graveyard and gate lodges. The stone dressings create a picturesque and rustic building, which is enhanced by the retention of many original features and materials.
