Detached ten-bay two-storey garda station, built in 1947. Consists of a nine-bay two-storey main block and a single-bay two-storey section set back from building line to east. Constructed of plain red brick with limestone plinth to base. Flat roof hidden behind parapet with limestone coping (check). Square-headed openings with replacement windows and stone sills (check), oculus opening to first floor on recessed bay. Square-headed doorcase with timber panelled doors to set-back end bay with elaborate limestone surround consisting of Ionic entablature supported on console brackets. Copper Garda crest above doorcase and a Garda lantern to immediate west. Street-fronted with yard to rear.
A large-scale, if rather plain, government building which retains its original form and massing. This building is enriched by the elaborate classical limestone doorcase which is of artistic merit and contrasts well with the plain red brick facade. This garda station represents a good example of the type of work undertaken by the Office of Public Works during the early years of the Irish Free State and is of social importance. Forms an interesting group of mid twentieth-century buildings along with the post office (15000013) and the social welfare office (15000014).
