Description

Gateway, erected c.1780, comprising pair of ashlar gate piers on square-plan with ashlar coping and a integral segmental-headed arch with ashlar voussoirs over. Flanked to the south by a square-headed pedestrian entrance, set in rubble limestone wall with brick voussoirs over.

Appraisal

An attractive and well-built gateway that dates to the late eighteenth-century. It is set in a rubble limestone wall that probably dates to the first phase of the barrack complex in the late-seventeenth century. It is a integral component of an important group of military buildings/structures to the south end of Custume Barracks.
