Freestanding monument, dated 1955; unveiled 1956, on a square plan. Set on quay.
A monument by Wheeler Williams (1897-1972) of Chicago 'presented to the people of Ireland by the United States of America' in commemoration of Commodore John Barry (1745-1803) and 'his outstanding contribution to the naval annals of his adopted country' (cf. 15704867): meanwhile, a later panel records wreath laying ceremonies carried out (1962; 1963) by President General Dwight D. Eisenhower (1890-1969) and President John F. Kennedy (1917-63) respectively. NOTE: Signed 'WHEELER WILLIAMS N.A SCULPTOR – U.S.A. - 1955' and 'T.F. McGANN & SONS Co. FDY. BOSTON MASS. U.S.A.'.
