Detached three-bay single-storey gate lodge, extant 1902, on a rectangular plan. Now disused. Pitched slate roof with trefoil-perforated crested clay ridge tiles, red brick Running bond "wallhead" chimney stack to rear (south) elevation having corbelled stepped capping supporting terracotta or yellow terracotta pots, quatrefoil-perforated timber bargeboards to gables on timber purlins, and remains of cast-iron rainwater goods on timber eaves boards on exposed timber rafters retaining cast-iron octagonal or ogee hoppers and downpipes. Rendered, ruled and lined walls with rusticated rendered quoins to corners. Square-headed central door opening with step threshold, and concealed dressings framing timber boarded door. Square-headed flanking window openings with cut-granite sills, and concealed dressings framing two-over-two timber sash windows. Square-headed window openings in tripartite arrangement to side elevations with cut-granite sills, timber mullions, and concealed dressings framing two-over-two timber sash windows having one-over-one sidelights. Set back from line of road opposite entrance to grounds of Raheen House with wrought iron "estate railings" to perimeter centred on wrought iron-detailed flat iron gate.
A cottage-like gate lodge contributing positively to the group and setting values of the Raheen House estate with the architectural value of the composition suggested by such attributes as the compact rectilinear plan form; and the decorative timber work embellishing the roofline. A prolonged period of unoccupancy notwithstanding, the elementary form and massing survive intact together with substantial quantities of the original fabric, both to the exterior and to the interior, thus upholding the character or integrity of a gate lodge making a pleasing visual statement in a sylvan street scene.
