Description

Detached three-bay single-storey gate lodge to Donard House, built c.1855. The façade is finished in painted roughcast whilst the hipped roof is covered in artificial slate and has a central brick chimneystack. The entrance consists of a timber tongue and groove double door and the flat-headed windows have replacement metal frames. Replacement metal rainwater goods. The lodge is set at the main (south-west entrance) to the Donard House demesne, with a relatively simple gate screen to the south side of the building consisting of a low rock-faced wall, similar piers and cast-iron railings and carriage gates.

Appraisal

Although some of its fabric has been unsympathetically altered, the presence of this mid 19th-century gate lodge (and the accompanying gate screen) close to the centre of the village adds interest to the streetscape.
