Detached three-bay single-storey former gate lodge, built c.1900, now in use as a house. The building is finished in render with moulded quoins. The sheeted timber door has a plain fanlight over and all is set within a semi-circular headed opening with a moulded surround; this in turn is sited in a projecting gabled single-storey bay. Window openings are flat-headed with two over two timber sash frames. To the south elevation there is a canted single storey-bay with a hipped roof. The pitched roof is finished with natural slate and has cast-iron rainwater goods. The eaves are overhanging with decorative bargeboards. The chimneystacks is in brick with corbelled cap and clay pots. The building is slightly set back from the road behind the formal gate screen.
This small gate lodge is in original condition; it announces the presence of a large and important building and in so doing adds character to the streetscape. It has a strong group value with the gate screen and the mill.
