Terraced two-bay four-storey former house, built c. 1790, now in use as retail outlet. Pitched slate roof with rendered chimneystacks. Front elevation rebuilt, 1871, with rendered walls having moulded render surrounds to upper floor openings. Timber sliding sash windows to upper floors. Vitrolite shopfront, c. 1970.
This building forms part of an interesting group with the adjoining terrace on the west side of North Main Street and with the terrace on the east side of the street. The scale and form of these buildings make a positive contribution to the streetscape. Built on the site of the medieval city, many of these buildings contain archaeological fabric. The façade of the building is articulated and enhanced by the decorative render detail, while the Vitrolite shopfront is a notable feature of the building, as shopfronts such as this one are becoming increasingly rare in the urban landscape, and Vitrolite is no longer in production.
