Description

Detached industrial building, built c. 1919. Roofs and varying pitches, some partially glazed. Concrete piers with later profiled metal cladding; river front partially glazed. Steel glazing to river front with large access door having roller shutter; various metal casements and doors to side. To the interior, exposed iron roof trusses, iron columns, metal gantries. Now in multiple use as part of Marina Commercial Park, but formerly part of Henry Ford & Son Motor Works. River frontage.

Appraisal

Large industrial building which retains much of its early twentieth-century industrial design character, despite later alterations. Particularly significant as part of former Henry Ford & Son Motor Works. Probably designed by the American architect Albert Kahn who acted as the main industrial architect for the Ford Motor Company.
