Detached four-bay two-storey brick building, built 1858, with Gothic-Tudor style brick facade having limestone dressings, gabled bay, mullioned windows, and wings to side and rear, set in private grounds bounded by squared limestone wall with iron railing to street boundary.
Mid-nineteenth century red brick institutional building founded by John Lane for Catholic girls and now catering for elderly ladies. Particularly significant for its intactness, retaining original street boundary walls and railings, gardens, as well as building fabric. The building is a particularly important and striking feature on the street, and is of unusual style and construction for the area.
