Freestanding cast-iron water hydrant, erected c.1870, now disused. Circular-profile with fluted shaft, conical spout and fluted cap with acorn finial.
This water hydrant exhibits artistic detailing in its design, which serves to enliven this otherwise functional object. Water hydrants such as this played an important social and functional role in nineteenth and twentieth century Ireland, providing an easily accessible water source. Situated in the centre of the village, this water hydrant makes a positive contribution to the streetscape.
