Freestanding cast-iron water pump, erected c.1880, now disused. Comprising banded cylindrical shaft, fluted head, spout and curvilinear 'cow tail' handle. Sited to south-west elevation of Masonic Lodge.
The appearance of this utilitarian object is much enlivened by its embossed fluted detailing and characteristic 'cow's tail' handle. The provision of water pumps prior to widespread mains connection served not only an important functional role but, in addition, served as meeting points for the local community. The survival of such examples adds to the architectural and social heritage of the area.
