Freestanding cast-iron water pump, installed c.1870, comprising of banded shaft, fluted neck, spout and cap with cow tail handle. Cast-iron bollard to north with fluted shaft, banded neck and cap. Low rubble stone enclosing wall with rendered coping to pump.
An noteworthy nineteenth century water pump in an urban context, which is a reminder of essential communal water provisions before the installation of mains supply. Simple artistic touches including fluting and an elegant handle enliven this functional object. It is complimented by the similarly designed adjacent cast-iron bollard.
