Freestanding cast-iron water pump, installed c.1880, having moulded pedestal, fluted shaft, banded neck with lion head spout and fluted cap with acorn finial.
Appraisal
An attractive road side feature of a kind that is becoming increasingly rare. The pump was an important element in the development of water supplies in an urban context providing communal water. Artistic details including a fluted shaft, lion head motif and an acorn finial enliven what was a mass produced cast-iron product.
