Freestanding cast-iron water pump, installed c.1890, comprising A-frame with attached wheel driven pump mechanism, comprising tubular wheel with attached handle and fixed faucet. Markers mark in relief to frame reading 'HIVE IRON WORKS'.
A charming piece of centrally located nineteenth-century street furniture, known affectionately as "The Wheel of Fortune", which was erected by the Earl of Shannon as part of a public water scheme. It is an important reminder of a time prior to the widespread provision of domestic water supply.
