Cast-iron water hydrant, installed c.1900, with banded base, fluted shaft and cap with acorn finial, having lion mask spout. Raised foundry stamp to base. Recently added tap. Located within niche in rubble stone wall at crossroads.
An attractive cast-iron water pump located in its original position. Still in use today, this pump would have once acted as an important communal water source. The banding, fluting and detailed lion’s head are well-designed features of this functional object.
