Cast-iron water hydrant, erected c. 1900, now disused. Fluted shaft with conical fluted cap, spout, handle and finial. Manufacturer's stamp to south-west face. Sited adjacent to former national school.

Appraisal

This elegant water hydrant exhibits attractive, well executed detailing which enlivens the form of an otherwise utilitarian object. It is located beside the local school house, forming a focal point in the community comprising two necessary social amenities. Water hydrants such as this are an important reminder of rural Ireland before the widespread provision of a domestic water supply.
