Description

Detached corn mill, built 1776, extended c.1820, now in ruins. Comprises north end wall of earlier block, wheel-pit to north side, five-storey later block with pitched roof straddling wheel-pit and having two round-arched openings to west wall and single segmental-arched opening to east side. Square-headed windows throughout, except for round window to upper north gable. Two-storey building to north, connected to mill by archway, and having pitched roof. Grain-drying kiln to south-west, buitl against rock-face. Four-bay two-storey miller's house to west, now in ruins.

Appraisal

This substantial mill ruin is sited picturesquely on the south bank of the River Funshion. Its water-wheel is said to have been the second largest in Ireland or Britain in its time.
