Description

Entrance gate, built c. 1835, comprising rendered crenellated sweep walls with carved limestone copings, having square-profile dressed limestone inner and outer piers with plinths and carved caps with moulded cornices, decorative cast-iron double-leaf gates, and with wrought-iron triangular arch over entranceway, with wrought-lettering. Rubble boundary walls to north and south.

Appraisal

This entrance forms an imposing and interesting feature along the roadside, enhanced by the unusual crenellated sweep walls. They form a group with Castle Kevin to the north and its outbuildings. Its crenellated walls reflect those of the main house and their copings and piers are well crafted.
