Description

Single-arch limestone railway bridge, built c. 1845, carrying railway line over road. Round arch with rock-faced voussoirs, flanked by rusticated pilasters and having cut-stone string course at impost level, running through archway, cut-stone string course above arch, and cut-stone parapets. Ramped abutment walls of dressed stone and having cut-stone copings.

Appraisal

This bridge forms part of the Mallow to Dublin railway line which opened c. 1845. Textural interest is provided by the contrast of rusticated, cut and dressed stone work. This high-quality craftsmanship and detailing greatly enhances a simple single-arch bridge.
