Five-span bridge over River Blackwater, built c. 1820, having limestone piers with cut-stone plinths having U-plan cutwaters and string courses, with half-dome caps to each end of snecked rock-faced walling above. Piers support reinforced concrete superstructure of c. 1970 having metal railed parapets.
This bridge exemplifies two technologies, early nineteenth-century stone and late twentieth-century concrete. The functional concrete flat-beam decking replaced an earlier structure. The re-use of the earlier masonry piers and abutments is an phenomenon and the bridge continues to play an important social role as a strategic crossing point across the Blackwater river.
