Description

Entrance gateway to Mount Rivers, erected c. 1820, comprising square-profile cut limestone piers with plinths and pyramidal caps to vehicular and pedestrian entrances, having similar outer piers, connected by curving coursed rubble limestone walls with limestone copings. Decorative wrought-iron gates, double-leaf to vehicular entrance.

Appraisal

This gateway to Mount Rivers is solidly constructed and shows good quality craftsmanship in stone masonry and ironwork. It is a reminder of the skill available in Ireland at the time of its construction. It provides important context to the locality and forms an attractive roadside feature.
