Description

Attached rectangular-plan three-walled handball alley, built c. 1900, with rear wall facing south, and recently constructed sports centre attached to east wall. Rubble stone walls, partially rendered to interior, with render coping to east and west walls.

Appraisal

Traditional vernacular structures, three-walled handball allies are found all over the country, but rarely in such a prominent position on a main street. Still in use today it is an example of one of few forms characteristic of Ireland. It creates a visual and social focal point to the south end of the village.
