Description

Single-span dressed limestone railway bridge, built c.1845, carrying Cork-Mallow railway line over road. Rock-faced walls and abutments with cut limestone stringcourse and spandrels. Concrete parapet wall over segmental-headed arch with margined rock faced voussoirs.

Appraisal

The form and materials displayed in this structure are characteristic of the high quality railway bridges of its time. The rock faced rustication adds to the solid and imposing façade of the bridge and this is further enhanced by the margined voussoirs. It forms part of a series of similar bridges along the rail line.
