Description

Five-arch road bridge spanning Sullane River, built c.1830. Rubble stone walls having cut limestone stringcourse and cut limestone capping stones to parapet walls. Tooled limestone voussoirs to segmental-headed arches with prominent keystones. Carved limestone bowed cutwaters to up (north-west) and downstream (south-east) elevations. Weir to downstream elevation.

Appraisal

This bridge is a reminder of the high quality engineering achievements of the nineteenth century. The cut limestone voussoirs, string course and capping stones display the quality of local craftsmanship. The use of different materials creates textural variation.
