Freestanding single-span cast-iron foot bridge over railway track, erected 1859, with staircases to east and west elevations, one to each platform. Depressed-arch bridge supported on cast-iron columns, four to each platform, with fluted bases and decorative capitals. Latticed parapets to bridge and staircases. Base of staircases terminated by decorative cast-iron colonettes. Maker's mark to column shaft.
A good example of Victorian engineering, this intact cast-iron footbridge features well-executed decorative detailing and still serves its original purpose. It is one of a group of related railway structures including the station and station master's house.
