Description

Detached three-bay single-storey former gate lodge, built c. 1850, now in use as house, having two bays to north recessed under roof forming verandah, and with recent full-width lean-to extension to rear (east) elevation. Pitched slate roof with rendered chimneystack and decorative timber eaves. Rubble stone walls, render removed, with brick quoins. Square-headed openings with brick block-and-start surrounds, having two-over-two pane timber sliding sash window, fixed window, and half-glazed timber panelled door. Rendered square-profile piers with wrought-iron pedestrian gate to site boundary.

Appraisal

Modest size and evidence of conscious design distinguish this as a former gate lodge to a big house. It forms a group with the other formerly demesne related structures. Distinctive form with verandah entrance, enhanced by red brick dressings. Retains much fabric including roof slates and timber sash windows.
